Bus back now sorted!
Just so you get into the swing of things and party good on the day without thinking how/when you may get back to Bilbao, we have arranged for 2 buses to go from the wedding venue to the Carlton (where you were picked up at 5pm), departing Boroa at 1.30 and 3.30. Not long to go…

The day before
In order to keep the wedding stress at bay and to have sufficient time to speak to everyone, we thought we would organise a little get together the day before. We have chosen a nice tapas bar in Bilbao’s Plaza Nueva. It’s a strategic decision, as the Cafe-bar is situated under the archways of one of the most beautiful squares in the city. This is good because:
1. Bilbao is having a reasonably rainy summer
2. Some of you may bring children, so there no cars in the square
3. The name is the name of the town so everybody will be able to pronounce it and no one will forget!
So, 7pm on 1 August 2008 at the Bilbao Cafe Bar.
Here’s how to find it:

Bus to the wedding venue
It’s utter madness in Neil and Laura’s wedding world. Menus, sitting arrangements, dresses, shoes, music, vows, hens, stags… all need to be sorted at unison. One thing that is resolved, is the bus that will take you to the venue. It will depart from the Carlton Hotel in Bilbao at 5pm on W-day, 2 August 2008. Nearest tube stop is Moyua. See map (the Carlton is the H) and picture of hotel below. You can’t miss it!
The way back is also more or less sorted. There will be a couple of buses leaving Boroa at different times, for those of you who want to rest and those of you who don’t. Precise details of these buses are not finalised but I think they will leave all passengers at the Carlton Hotel again, as this is a very central location. Bilbao has excellent night buses, and taxis are just round the corner from the hotel, so you will be able to reach your beds easily. Walking won’t be difficult either!

More on the Clickair flight London to Bilbao
Apparently, the route London-Bilbao is going to operate from 30 March 2008, on a daily basis from Bilbao Loiu to Gatwick; prices are expected to be from 20 Euros. It will depart Bilbao at 10.20am, arrive at Gatwick 11.10. Then from Gatwick at 11.40 to arrive in Bilbao at 14.25… That’s all we know from the time being. We’ll keep you posted with more soon!
Keep those RSVP cards coming… They tend to cheer us up when they say yes!

Getting to Bilbao
Oh dear, no sooner we put information out, the airline moguls (or perhaps pixies) change it! First, thanks to Rhodri for being diligent and testing all websites as soon as he got the information. He told us that Iberia certainly do fly to Bilbao from Heathrow but via a scenic route through Madrid, making the flight time 4.5 hours and adding to the expense.
This is no good.
As soon as could, I phoned my mum, as she works for Iberia. Rhodri knew before company members… She investigated and told me that Iberia is creating a new no-frills filial company called Clickair, who will fly from Heathrow to Bilbao from April 2008. Tickets will be on sale from January 2008. What can I say? At least it will be cheaper!

Wedding Website
At the time of writing, this wedding website is almost complete. It just needs some content on the Spanish side and then it will be ready for public consumption. As such, I thought it might be worth writing a little introduction.
The main purpose of the site is to keep the people we’ve invited informed of developments and the like. Keep checking this journal if you want to know how things are going. We’ll probably also give more information about hotels and travel arrangements for those that need it.
A word of warning. Those of you browsing this in Internet Explorer version 6 and below are going to see something less than ideal, due to the lack of support for web standards. It should work okay, but I really recommend that you download a new browser, like say Firefox.

When you arrive to the Basque Country, you will realise that all the information displayed around you is in two languages. Basque culture and with it, its language (Euskera) is a present everywhere in Bilbao. Euskera is one of the oldest languages in the world and has linguists puzzled because, apparently, it is not connected to any other known language. You can read about current hypotheses
Around Bilbao there are several villages and resorts that make the area really interesting. For instance, in under 20 minutes (by underground) you can reach Las Arenas and visit the
